Mobile operator Tele2 starts collecting old phones for utilization
MOSCOW, Dec 11 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, working under brand Tele2, has opened 68 points to accept unneeded mobile devices in 11 cities across the country, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, the operator said on Wednesday in a statement.
“Users renovate mobile phones more often than other electronics. Unneeded devices are stocked at home or thrown away, worsening the electronic waste situation. Tele2 believes that controlled collection of old smartphones and their utilization will dramatically change the situation,” the company said.
All the collected devices are delivered to Chelyabinsk-based plant Megapolisresurs, an enterprise processing mobile electronics and batteries.
Polls say that Russians are ready to take part in ecological initiatives and support the waste sorting model.
